Episode 308 : A letter that was never sent
Dear Edward,
I know you are surprised on seeing this letter from me. I know you were wondering if it is ever possible and put it down as one of your whimsical fancies. I cannot assure you it is possible; I am just trying out my whimsical fancy!
Until Science progresses enough to allow me to travel and tell you it will be alright, this letter is all you will have.
I know you are looking for answers to a lot of questions that a troubled 16-year old will have. Am I as good as my friends? Will I get a decent job? Will I earn pots of money? Are all these troubles worth the effort?
I can answer one- yes, it is worth going through all of those troubles.
Looking back, it does appear that what you study then will make a difference in how you turn out 10 or 20 years later. But it comes with a condition- you must be willing to stick your neck out, and stick to what you always want to do.
As for all those girls who are ignoring you, it helps if you look at them and smile instead of pretending you did not see them. Remember, you reap what you sow.
As for the others, it doesn't matter what others think of you- they are too busy thinking of what others might be thinking of them. I know you do not go ahead with what y', have in mind only because the stranger next to you might wonder why you are being so stupid. It doesn't matter really, because people will either envy you or laugh at you. And right now, you are only bothered about how many people envy you. Believe me, sometimes I still wonder if the number of people envying me has gone up or come down. (Bad advice this, I will remember not to touch upon it if I write to you again)
Just do what your mind tells you. Most of my regrets have cone down over the years because I (finally!)chose to put my past behind, get on with what I have, and make something worthwhile for the future.
Like I said before, it will be worth the effort as long as you believe in it.
Yours,
Edward Hyde, aged 33.
PS: And before I forget, go to Alliance Francaise and start those French classes now instead of waiting for another 16 years like me! I promise you that your life will change, at least a little bit if not a lot.
