The Edward Hyde Show: 125 : Whose story is it anyway?

"Sometimes I get to feelin’, I was back in the old days - long ago
When we were kids when we were young, things seemed so perfect - you know
The days were endless we were crazy we were young,
The sun was always shinin’ - we just lived for fun
Sometimes it seems like lately - I just don’t know,
The rest of my life’s been just a show."

--Freddie Mercury, These are the days of our lives.

Episode 125 : Whose story is it anyway?

I am not a feminist, neither do I think I am chauvinistic enough to be dubbed one.

I know I know, who has ever admitted to being chauvinistic?

All I know is, do your own thing as long as it doesn't infringe on what I want to do and want to be. And I will let you be.

But I have seen that-

  1. Being a Daddy's girl is cool; being a Mama's boy is derogatory.
  2. Girls can drive; guys cannot cook.
  3. A working wife is alright; a house husband is not.
  4. It is cool if you "claim" you have a lesbian lover. It is "funny" to tease a straight guy about his pseudo-closet.

Ever wondered why? And these insights are not from a male point of view.

That did bring a smile to my face because it's something I wanted to include in my post but didn't have the energy left. See, Gender is a social construct and just the way women are expected to do certain things, so are men. That's the burden of masculinity. There are others too: You're sissy if you don't watch sports, gay if you're too close to your male friends...etc We live in a deficient society.

    That seems pretty neutral.

I agree, #2 isn't that convincing as I wanted it to be. The problem is, as I can see even now, it looks agreeable from a female point of view. But look at it closely, and you will find that it is agreeable only because the male too finds it favourable/acceptable.

For example, if women outnumber men, the sex ratio is said to be favourable. For whom? For the man, of course! Optimal evolution can happen only when there are less females than males, so that the males "improve themselves" for the betterment of the species.

If there is no "competition", how can the product improve?

    :-)
