The Edward Hyde Show: 129 : 2006 est mort, vive 2007

"Sometimes I get to feelin’, I was back in the old days - long ago
When we were kids when we were young, things seemed so perfect - you know
The days were endless we were crazy we were young,
The sun was always shinin’ - we just lived for fun
Sometimes it seems like lately - I just don’t know,
The rest of my life’s been just a show."

--Freddie Mercury, These are the days of our lives.

Episode 129 : 2006 est mort, vive 2007

It is that time of the year where the old makes way for the new.

When I rode to Bangalore last year, I did it in the hope that welcoming a new year from a place other than home might make it better than the previous one. 2004 was better than 2003 and I hoped 2006 would be better than 2005.

Frasier: "Don't be offended." Why should I be offended? In the last week, I've uprooted myself from my home of fifteen years, moved all the way across the country away from everything I care about, and plunged myself into a frightening new career!...

I moved across the country (well, almost!), away from my home of seventeen years and from everything I care about, plunging myself into a new life. And when I read this, I cannot help smiling because now I have done it all.

2006 didn't turn out to be quite like 2004, but it wasn't so bad. And when I take stock of the 29th year of my life, I will know exactly how well it turned out to be.

This weekend, I will take my bike and ride on the highways. Just like last year. Only this time the distance will be longer. Much longer. Through different highways. To different places- some new, some old.

And here I am
On the road again
There I am
Up on a stage
Here I go
Playing star again
There I go
Turn the page

See you on the other side of 2006.

Oh don't worry about it. I'm convinced this excessive reflectiveness is to do with the time of the year it is. Maeks me wonder then - why do people want to celebrate on the 31st?
