The Edward Hyde Show: 355 : The endless river

"Sometimes I get to feelin’, I was back in the old days - long ago
When we were kids when we were young, things seemed so perfect - you know
The days were endless we were crazy we were young,
The sun was always shinin’ - we just lived for fun
Sometimes it seems like lately - I just don’t know,
The rest of my life’s been just a show."

Episode 355 : The endless river

Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun

I do not remember when I first saw the name 'Pink Floyd' on the sleeve of a music cassette. I only understood that it was the name of a music band that my uncle listens to, and put it aside.

The name remained embedded in my conscious for many years, but I never bothered to find who there were or how they sounded. It continued that way till 1994 when Pink Floyd released an album called 'The Division Bell'. By playing 'Take it back' on a regular basis, the radio made sure that my curiosity had peaked enough to buy the album. I was secretly proud that I picked up an album by an artist from my uncle's era, and that meant being able to appreciate 'old music'.

I loved the album. I found myself still playing it ten years later even as I discovered their music from earlier times. 'The Division Bell' cassette was followed by its CD, and then by its MP3 form. A hunt for the vinyl is all but abandoned only because I cannot afford it...

So when I heard that Pink Floyd will release another album after all these years, it felt nice. It felt like I am about to receive something precious for safe-keeping till someone else is old enough to appreciate it. Whether my nephew will listen to Pink Floyd many years later or whether Pink Floyd will again release another album some years from now, remains to be seen.

What I want to know is whether it will be as good as the first album of theirs that I listened to.

I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the waiting had begun
And headed straight... into the shining sun
