Episode 341 : Simply the best

The annual appraisal is like running a marathon. You are given a list of goals for the year. How much of it you manage to complete successfully, determine where you stand in the team. You start slowly, and think you are pacing yourself well for the finish. More often than not, it becomes a case of "too little, too late". One has to remain satisfied with a rating of Good or Above Average because certain goals were not met. Even though you would have slogged for the rest, there are certain tasks you must finish to be considered at least Better Than The Rest. The less said about being considered Best, the better.

As if fighting to complete tasks on time was not enough, the powers that be decided to raise the bar and declared that fulfilling the list only got you as far as Better Than The Rest. It was a good way to make sure all of us really slogged!

This year, the efforts finally bore fruit- completing tasks in time, contributing to different projects, applying for a patent, 6 months of keeping customers happy, and generally slogging it out a little more than the rest.

I know now what it takes to get there. The question is, do I have it in me for an encore or will I go insane?
