The Edward Hyde Show: 49 : Loser

"Sometimes I get to feelin’, I was back in the old days - long ago
When we were kids when we were young, things seemed so perfect - you know
The days were endless we were crazy we were young,
The sun was always shinin’ - we just lived for fun
Sometimes it seems like lately - I just don’t know,
The rest of my life’s been just a show."

--Freddie Mercury, These are the days of our lives.

Episode 49 : Loser

'I read your new story' she said. 'I am beginning to see a pattern. Soon I think I will be able to predict the ending.'

I laughed.

'Anybody who reads my stories knows the pattern. The ...' I paused for a moment, realising what I was going to say next.

"... main character loses." I finished with a straight face.

And with that I consciously accepted it too. Something that my sub-conscious did a long time ago.

That the main characters of all my stories who lose in the end, are loosely based on me.

Something, someone, someplace, somewhere, sometime.

And this, I think, explains the underdog feeling as well.

Afterthought : Contrary to how it appears, I am not depressed. Just a feeling of acceptance.

A Failure is someone who tries and does not succeed. A Loser is someone who does not have the balls to try. There is no shame in being a failure.

... You sure that main character of yours is indeed a Loser?

SwB, the main characters tries and loses. Many times. Defining it loosely (pun intended), one who loses is a loser, isn't it? :-)
