The Edward Hyde Show: 180 : Body language

"Sometimes I get to feelin’, I was back in the old days - long ago
When we were kids when we were young, things seemed so perfect - you know
The days were endless we were crazy we were young,
The sun was always shinin’ - we just lived for fun
Sometimes it seems like lately - I just don’t know,
The rest of my life’s been just a show."

--Freddie Mercury, These are the days of our lives.

Episode 180 : Body language

My only problem with body language is that I am good at reading it.

Sometimes too bloody good at it for my own good!

Closely following it is another problem.

I still believe the spoken word.

Body language is what the mind says when the tongue says something else.

    hmm..
Then if you're 'good at it', it can only be bad, right, for it would be forever giving you away, showing the world what you really think even while your tongue tries in vain to weave a verbal disguise? :)

If I am good at it, it is bad for others because I know what they are thinking when they say something else.

In my case, I am too straight-forward to be able to disguise my thoughts. I prefer staying mum.

Ah, so you meant that you are good at reading it!

I think body language adds so much to the communication. For example, sometimes if one looks at just the words, a sentence might come across as rude. But it's only when one sees the twinkle in the eyes or the mischievous grin that you realize that the person is just teasing. Yea, life would be so much easier if the written/typed word could be as expressive.

This just brought a certain Mr Rhett Butler to mind - "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn..." :)

Annoying it is when I have to explain here. :-) I assumed my readers are smart enough to understand what I meant. I think I'll have to do something about this one.

No. but you shouldn't. It is your prerogative to express what you'd like, and in the way that you find most agreeable to your sensibilities.

it's ours to be as dense as we are. :-D
