Episode 252 : Being me

'I pity the girl who will get married to you' Mama Hyde remarked.

I rolled my eyes.

'Whoever it is, she can be sure of support from me and Edwina' she added.

'We'll see who actually requires support- she or me' I retorted.

That was fifteen years ago.

All of us have come across questionnaires forwarded in emails that require you to answer 20-25 questions very honestly. At least one would have the question- 'If you were someone else, would you be friends with you?'

The answer is invariably yes. The popular notion is that no one in the world can be as good as them.

It made me think.

I've turned rude, lose my temper quickly, keep to myself, respond sarcastically- anything that would make me look bad in the eyes of an unsuspecting public.

The ones who are still friends with me, are so because they like me in spite of me.

Bringing me to the question, if I were someone else, at first glance, why would I want to be friends with such a person?

Or marry such a person.

As Mama Hyde said, the girl who decides to marry me will require a lot of strength.

It took me thirty one years to understand what my folks understood in fifteen.
