Episode 337 : Black or white

The streaks of white among the black hair on my head gets attention from everyone around me. Silvery strands that try hard hide to behind a wisp of black, but in vain. A few years ago it would have been easier, but now curious gazes seek then out instantly.

I did not realise it at first, but slowly I began to get the feeling that people stare at my hair while talking to me. I figured that the new way of styling my hair is the reason... till someone asked me why I don't dye my hair black.

I like white, I said flatly. Secretly, I prefer blue-black or a dark shade of indigo but that is another story.

I gave up convincing them, and they gave up convincing me.

The other day, all of us were in a meeting to discuss the previous day's work and to discuss the current day's tasks- otherwise known as scrum.

I noticed something glint for a fraction of a second. I kept looking in the general area, and finally zeroed it onto my colleague's chin. A solitary white hair, revealed its location amidst all the black.

I tried hard not to giggle. All these days, I was the butt of all jokes on white hair and black hair dyes. As each member of the team left the room, I whispered my latest finding.

We snickered. All of them giggled with me. I felt truly happy that day.

Guess what I found on my chin the following morning.

White hair doesn't have to indicate old age. But I recall what a character once said in a play- You are truly old when you start having white hair down there.
