The Edward Hyde Show: 77 : Change, change, change

"Sometimes I get to feelin’, I was back in the old days - long ago
When we were kids when we were young, things seemed so perfect - you know
The days were endless we were crazy we were young,
The sun was always shinin’ - we just lived for fun
Sometimes it seems like lately - I just don’t know,
The rest of my life’s been just a show."

Episode 77 : Change, change, change

Some things just don't change, and some take their own time.

Day 1 at Specific Gravity and I told the auto-rickshaw driver to "Take me to Cunningham Road, Hickle Tech office".

Hickle Tech does have offices in Bangalore, but it is not at Cunningham Road...

Day 2 and while logging into the first time into Specific Gravity's network, I use Hickle Tech's login id because they are so similar...

A tech talk was presented by one of the product managers of the company. As I am wont to do at most meetings, I began to nod off. Till he uttered the magic word after which staying awake was no longer a problem.

The magic word, you ask? The name of the client I worked for at Hickle Tech...

Day 3 and I have to go to the Cunningham Road office again to collect my photo-id card. I ride my bike to the entrance and ask for Hickle Tech parking lot...

These will take a couple of weeks before my mind automatically substitutes Specific Gravity every time it comes across Hickle Tech.

But...

I ride through the roads of Bangalore and wonder how small the place really is. (Perhaps I just lost my way...)

I stop at a petrol station and grumble how petrol is cheaper by a couple of bucks in Madras. (After hearing a sadistic rumour on how petrol prices are going to be hiked by ten rupees...)

I sit in an empty room and, above the sound of the whirring fan, think to myself how I had more things to do in Madras on a weekend.

And then realise I had sub-consciously done what I swore I would never do. Which I did when I moved from Delhi to Madras 17 years ago.

That I would never compare two places.

Some things are harder to change than others.

it's ok to compare places - I did it obsessively - when I moved from Delhi to bombay and back. In fact, two years after I left Bombay, I STILL can't stop raving about bombay. But I suppose that's got more to do with Bombay than anything else!

(this is how you leave a comment ;)

Compare yes, take sides no. I am afraid I will do the latter once I start the former.

Essar, that is a wonderful hint. Actually, I am quite aware how to comment, but words fail me when I read what you write. My sincere apologies are accepted, yes? :-P

welcome to blore! aren't u glad it rained? and the weather is all wonderful. compare that to madras!

    hope you settle in well.
hint for happy existence: do not go near the malls on weekends. they're packed with people and you're likely to be trampled to death.

You know Q, that thought struck me today morning as I rode to work.

Pinkie (and yes I shall use this name every time I feel offended), there is nothing one can do about Madras weather. Especially during the months of April, May and June. I like to think of it as our way of bearing the sins of the rest of the country.

Actually TGIP (I am not so offended now), I am only happy when it rains in places like Madras. Because we need respite. Not in places like Bangalore where... umm... respite is not really needed.

As for the malls, the malls weren't so bad. Big Bazaar was!

What a wise decision! Two places should never be compared. I think so too. You immediately lose the charm and positivity one place held simply by overanalysing, too much analysing, comparing etc. Bangalore's a lovely place, isn't it? It's still got that great weather and sudden rains...inspite of the pollution, bad traffic, malls etc.
    Have fun!

The pollution is something I have to get used to. It is no better (or worse) than what we have at Madras, but the effects are stronger here. Lack of humidity, I suppose.

    - Did i do something to you? Maybe hit an auto you were riding in? Bribed the rain gods into not bestowing their kindness on madras?
Or are you just usually this warm to people who come and leave congenial messages on your blog?
