The Edward Hyde Show: 352 : Tales from The Script, and others

"Sometimes I get to feelin’, I was back in the old days - long ago
When we were kids when we were young, things seemed so perfect - you know
The days were endless we were crazy we were young,
The sun was always shinin’ - we just lived for fun
Sometimes it seems like lately - I just don’t know,
The rest of my life’s been just a show."

Episode 352 : Tales from The Script, and others

The night before a wedding, there is the customary ritual where the boy and the girl are blessed by older family members, relatives and older cousins.

I am placed somewhere in the middle in the order of cousins. A few elder cousins could not make it, so I expected it to be conveniently paced and quick to finish.

I did not expect an elder cousin to send a photograph of her feet asking that I seek her blessings. The other cousins dutifully snapped a photograph of me doing just that, and sent it back to her.

'I am doing all the running around so that he can relax and be ready for the wedding tomorrow. And what is he doing? Watching a movie at 11 in the night!'' Edwina complained to Mama Hyde.

She then turned to me and asked,'Which movie is it?'

'Hangover 2', I smirked.

'I am not taking my car to the wedding and the reception. So arrange a car for me', I told Edwina.

'What kind of a car do you want?' she asked.

'A sedan please; I don't want a hatchback. Besides, it must seat 4 people comfortably.'

'An Etios or a Fiesta?'

'Anything like that will do. Even an Indigo.'

The night before the wedding, Edwina told me she had booked a Corolla.

'But why? I don't want such a large car!' I complained.

'This is the lowest they have. They otherwise deal in BMWs and Mercs. I am glad he did not laugh at me when I asked for something lower than the Corolla!'

She then told me the rates for booking them.

To her annoyance, I said 'Maybe you should have booked a Mercedes for me. It would have been nice.'

'Please exchange your rings', the priest told us.

After I slid the ring on her finger, she took my ring and proceeded to hold my hand. At that very moment, the ring chose to be aided by gravity, took a downward path, and landed between my feet.

A hush descended around us as Anna bent forward to look for the ring. It wasn't planned, and there would never be another opportunity like this.

I 'blessed' her as she scrambled up with the ring, much to the amusement of the people around us. And I have a photograph too.

'Our wedding and reception photos are ready to be sorted', Anna told me over chat.

'How bad do I look in them?' I asked warily. My hair was styled in a way thta I was (and still am) not used to.

'You look mostly look amused in them, as if you are saying that you know you look silly in them. Except in the ones with guests where both of us look bored'.

Which means I did a fairly good job of not freezing up when the camera was pointed at me. Apparently it was easy to photograph us.

'You must come to our place in Coonoor', an aunt told Mama Hyde.

'But who will look after him when his mother is away at work?', she asked pointing to The Nephew.

'Oh, let your son and your daughter-in-law take care of him. After all, they should also get used to it'

'This is our gift to you', an aunt told Anna as she held out a package.

'We also picked up a book, but we weren't sure about it', she added.

My ears pricked up, and I couldn't stop myself from asking what it was.

The uncle went in and brought a book that I had earlier spotted on a shelf.

It was on parenting.

'Whenever you two are ready' he said.

Touche #2.
