The Edward Hyde Show: 137 : Surprises

"Sometimes I get to feelin’, I was back in the old days - long ago
When we were kids when we were young, things seemed so perfect - you know
The days were endless we were crazy we were young,
The sun was always shinin’ - we just lived for fun
Sometimes it seems like lately - I just don’t know,
The rest of my life’s been just a show."

--Freddie Mercury, These are the days of our lives.

Episode 137 : Surprises

After lunch, the two of us, my colleague and I, go for a customary walk.

We had barely taken a few steps forward when she said she had something to tell me.

I thought she was going to tell me to stop teasing her so often.

'I am getting married.'

Whoa! Talk about the unexpected.

As it has been in the last few months, I couldn't help teasing her again.

'Bechara, he has no idea what he is getting into...' and retorts began.

'Arre, yeh to poocho ki shaadi kab hai!' she exclaimed after some time.

'Kab?'

'22nd ko.'

'Itni jaldi?'

'Haan, mujhe aaj hi pata chala.'

We turned back towards the office. The serious questions began. How long is she planning to continue? Did she put in her papers?

After answering them, she said quietly, 'I wanted to tell you first so that you wouldn't hear it from someone else'.

We continued walking, but mentally my mind stopped.

She told me first because she did not want me to hear it from someone else. When was the last time someone thought like that?

The thing about having low expectations is, surprises are pleasant.

Try zero expectations - the surprises are a big kick! The only (surefire) cure for cynicism / pessimism and all such related ballyhoos :-).

Got the books. Who loves ya, baby?

Sowparni, I did not want to use the word "zero" in place of low and sound really pessimistic. I have some minimal expectations. Never mind that, when are we meeting? :-)

You know who, I really don't know who you are and statcounter is not helping me either. :-)
